I hate the trope of the TV lawyer discrediting someone by pointing out that they are angry too. Anger is a human emotion, and being angry does not automatically mean revenge. Benson has a lawyer for Monica, who is in custody. Monica panics because she is locked up. She says she doesn`t plead guilty to everything. The lawyer is happy to hear it. Rollins and Kat find the bike outside (two months later?) It was the kind of thing he should have talked about with a boss — it`s a stretch to think Olivia knew enough about how to practice as a lawyer to advise him — but there aren`t many inspirational speeches from Benson. He also suggested that Monica`s rape was not important because she worked at a strip club, which Barth later repeated in court. Later, she seems upset and leaves the locker room and rushes to her bike. She finds someone who has taken the front tire, curses and throws her purse on it.
@dttruman – it`s sad – and probably a little abnormal – that Carisi doesn`t seem to have any colleagues to turn to. I don`t know how someone can survive as an ADA without making connections within their own work network! I didn`t like that episode. So many parts were useless, like Amanda, who was interrogated by a random DA while she was with Carisi. Was Carisi supposed to be jealous or did Amanda want him to be the one to challenge her? Stop suggesting that these two go hand in hand. It`s disgusting. I also agree that there are too many women in CSR. There must be a new male detective. There is no balance. Barth was only too happy when she received testimony from other survivors, and her treatment of Monica on the witness stand was deplorable. Anyway, the end of the episode was predictably happy.
Despite Carisi`s nervous breakdown, the jury found the defendant guilty. Who doesn`t see this coming? She didn`t think they would investigate her case, so she wanted her photos for her next billboard. The SVU detectives understood why Monica was being kept. That didn`t stop them from investigating, and they eventually learned the name of their attacker. Their attacker was Markeevious Ryan. He was a retired athlete who now owns restaurants and was still wealthy and influential. He was also a regular at the strip club. He showed up there anyway and that`s why the owner tried to bury the rape. Carisi tries again. He uses Monica`s anger and sense of injustice.
Barth opposes the missing question. Monica calls Markeevious a tyrant and a coward. She prompts Markeevious and his obnoxious lawyer to take the witness stand. Carisi and Fin discover that Monica now works in a BDSM club. Monica tells Benson and Rollins that there are rules in this club. Benson tells Monica she wants to help him. Monica takes a picture and says they will be her next billboard. After Markeevious` arrest and trial, his lawyer Elana Barth was rude to Monica and often tried to vent her anger. One was a DV and the other was ours. The DJ was a sexist sleazebag, but wouldn`t he have been more interesting if he had been innocent and just an idiot? Or, as mentioned, had she (or he) been black? And some of what he says about what they called groupies is true. There are women who behave like that near rock stars, rappers, etc. I agree that the images themselves were somehow ridiculous and exaggerated. Apparently, Monica had never heard of Instagram. Why (and how) was Benson able to find him a defense lawyer? That is not their job. On the contrary, his version of the case should have been dealt with entirely by Carisi and the DA office. I like him better as a prosecutor and he shows that he knows his way around a courtroom (better than Benson and his constant crusade, IMO). January At the end, Monica thanks Benson and Carisi for helping her by making them a mural. Monica explains that the keys symbolize Markeevius` judgment and that Carisi deserves wings to do justice. The cops spoke at length with Markeevious. He called Monica a whore and said he paid for the whole experience. It even seems that he tipped the club owner for the rape. Markeevious didn`t see what was happening as a big problem and quickly moved on when police questioned him. Only, they also questioned his future ex-wife. She told police there had been a number of allegations.
She didn`t give names or anything because she said all the money should go to her, and she told the police she wouldn`t pay for women who were too stupid to come out from under him. Monica then made another mural and this time she showed it finally getting justice. She even drew pictures of Benson and Carisi, who have wings and are angels. Monica decides to organize an impromptu press conference/rally. His lawyer also participates and calls on the NYPD to arrest Markeevious. Monica testifies. Deense`s lawyer is obnoxious that Monica accepts the tip and cracks down on her because she is a stripper. Barth: That`s what you`re saying. But aren`t you really angry about having to work in a strip club if you consider yourself an artist? This policeman, who took it upon himself to throw away his holster, should have lost his badge. It was not up to him to decide which CSR cases would take. It was his job to pass on the report and let the detectives decide. Monica stood her ground for the most part, but it was annoying, and Barth did a great disservice to rape victims all over the world by suggesting that it`s just rape if you report it immediately and the money isn`t involved. Carisi tells Benson that from now on, these women will have to stay out of the news. The ex-wife appears to be aware of the rapes. She didn`t care because she didn`t want it to ruin her alimony, so the police wouldn`t get other women`s names from him. As soon as they heard about the ex-wife, Monica contacted her.
Monica`s former boss at the strip club had sent her some of her old stuff, which was all broken, and it was even a dead rat. The club had wanted her to shut up about her rape, and all she did was anger her. Monica fired SVU. Then she left and chained herself out of Markeevious` restaurant in protest. Whether Monica was a stripper or paid by men for sex, she always had the right to say no, and she was always intimidated by a system that didn`t care. Carisi is super nervous that the jury won`t come back. Rollins is about to take Carisi for a walk when the judges return. Two other women contacted Monica`s lawyer. They had been raped out of state and they were ready to come and tell their stories. What would help prove a trend? The women all told a variation of the same story. They mentioned that Markeevious was too far ahead and that his face out of nowhere turned white just before attacking him, but neither woman had filed a police report at the time of the rape and so a judge was unwilling to implicate them in the case. The case against Markeevious was fragile at best and Carisi didn`t know how to defend Monica properly.

January When the case against Sir Tobi is set to begin in SVU`s season 21 finale, The Things We Have To Lose, some former victims of the season resurface, such as Joelle, whose husband Leon is released from prison after 6 months for beating her. Fin allows himself to interfere too much, which leads him to give Joelle`s son, André, a phone to call him in case Leon comes. Of course, Leon does, and Fin makes a decision that leads to Leon`s death. Kat also has to deal with a previous victim when Lakira calls because she believes Davies attacked another trans prostitute on the docks. Meanwhile, Ivy Bucci is playing. Her mother asks the troupe for help and Rollins takes it upon herself to find the girl and bring her to the right side. As if not busy enough, Carisi and Benson prepare the victims for the grand trial of Sir Tobias Moore, whose medical situation postpones the trial. Why do they almost always let Benson tell the ADA how to continue, give advice, or hold pointless discussions of encouragement? I`m afraid that one day I will see an episode where the ADA suffers an illness or a violent attack during the trial and there won`t be any other ADAs that could be sued. The AD then enforces an old obscure law where he (or she) can give a police officer the power to prosecute, and unsurprisingly, Benson is chosen.
A stripper, angry at the lack of investigation into her assault, takes it upon herself to use her painting skills and decorates her neighborhood with artwork accusing the NYPD of cover-up.
