Yes. In this challenging time of pandemic and economic disruption, the Cobb County District Court has remained open, working twenty-four (24) hours a day each day. The Clerk`s office will continue to be open to the public in person and by telephone during normal business hours. Thanks to the commitment and innovation of our own important employees, the doors of the People`s Court have never closed to our community. The Clerk`s office remains open to the public with minimal staff. In the following cases, however, all hearings were cancelled. You will receive a new hearing date when the judicial emergency ends. In criminal matters, courts of first instance (formerly known as police courts in London and small sessions elsewhere) have been organised in England and Wales to deal quickly with minor offences. All criminal proceedings begin in the District Court and more than 95% end there – only the most serious crimes go to the Crown Court. [5] The Magistrate Court has developed detailed protocols for personal proceedings, including establishing limited and staggered calendars throughout the day instead of bulky calendar calls, requiring social distancing in the courtroom and opening additional waiting areas, arranging face coverings, providing hand sanitizers, and implementing temperature control. Now, the courts allow lawyers to file by email or fax types of cases that cannot currently be filed electronically, see below for information from the court. Please go www.cobbcounty.org/courts/magistrate-court or contact the Court of First Instance at MagCivil@cobbcounty.org or (770) 528-8900.

In England and Wales, a Magistrates` Court is a subordinate court that hears cases relating to summary offences and certain valid bilateral cases. Some civil law issues are also decided here, in particular family proceedings. In 2015, there were around 330 magistrates` courts in England and Wales[1], although the government planned to close up to 57 of them. [2] The jurisdiction of magistrates` courts and their rules are set out in the Magistrates` Courts Act 1980. Judicial review may be considered if a party considers that a court has acted beyond its jurisdiction, that there is a violation of natural justice, or if a decision or reasoning is inappropriate for Wednesbury, i.e. irrational. Other circumstances may also apply, but judicial review generally calls into question the legality of a decision or act of a public authority. [30] There are judges in other common law jurisdictions. Please note: The District Court holds limited daily wedding ceremonies BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Due to social distancing requirements and in the best interest of public health, each couple may only allow up to five (5) additional guests to attend the courtroom ceremony. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to celebrating with you. In the courts of first instance, cases are usually heard by a bank of three (or sometimes two) justices of the peace or by a magistrates` court.
Criminal cases are generally investigated by police, but not exclusively, and then prosecuted in court by the Crown Prosecution Service. Judges use their training and good judgment to oversee the application and enforcement of state laws, municipal laws, and judicial proceedings. Judges have jurisdiction over civil cases where the disputed financial amount is less than ten thousand dollars. They listen to criminal cases and conduct preliminary investigations in criminal cases. In criminal cases, they make and record affidavits, complaints, arrest warrants and search warrants, as well as the establishment of bail and decisions on proposed plea agreements, the recovery of court costs, cash bonds and fines. (2) The declaration of the Supreme Court of Georgia on the national judicial emergency expired at 23:59 on 30 June 2021. All courts, in turn, are bound by legal and rules-based deadlines. The maximum criminal powers of the district courts are 12 months` imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine. Some traffic offences are punishable by endorsement (driving licence offices) and/or driving ban for a certain period. Youth substance abuse procedures serve to protect abused and neglected children while providing their families with the services they need. Under the Pennsylvania Supreme Court order of March 18, urgent motions are considered essential functions under a provision of the Juvenile Act and home hearings on juvenile addicts. Please note the information about local courts published on the coronavirus information page on pacourts.us/ujs-coronavirus-information. During these unprecedented times, Pennsylvania`s vulnerable populations – especially the elderly – are now in greater need of protection than ever. While the courts remain temporarily closed to the public, the core functions of the courts remain accessible. St. Matthews Municipal Court is open on Wednesdays and opens at 9 a.m. In any case, crimes can be dealt with by the Magistrates` Court or the Crown Court. There will be a hearing to decide on the location, where there will be an overview of the case from both the prosecution and the defense. The guideline is whether, if the case of the Public Prosecutor`s Office is taken most seriously, the court considers that a district court has sufficient criminal powers. If this is the case, the case will be accepted and a date will be set for a subsequent hearing in a district court – otherwise the case will be referred to the Crown Court, as for the criminal offences listed below.
