Deca-Durabolin is a light yellow oily solution for injection containing 50 mg/ml of the active ingredient nandrolone decanoate. The reason for this unexpected outcome has not been determined. Another possible (though unlikely) reason for a false positive is the consumption of beef from cattle treated with steroids, including nandrolone (used to overturn the verdict against bobsledder Lenny Paul). The high intake of lysine, an essential amino acid (as indicated in the treatment of cold sores) also showed false positive results in some and was cited by American ball thrower C.J. Hunter as the reason for his positive test. A final possible cause of false urine test results is the presence of metabolites of other anabolic steroids. Due to the large number of overturned judgments, the test procedure was reviewed by UK Sport [1] in 2000. A dose of nandrolone decanoate of 25 to 50 mg once every 6 to 12 weeks (up to an average exposure of approximately 2 to 8 mg per week) by intramuscular injection is considered appropriate for general androgen replacement therapy in women. [31] [32] [20] A dose of 50 mg once every 2 to 4 weeks by intramuscular injection is used for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and for palliative treatment of inoperable breast cancer. [2] [6] [33] In children aged 2 to 13 years, the average dose for anemia for chronic renal failure is 25 to 50 mg every 3 to 4 weeks by intramuscular injection. [18] Doses in humans and for other uses have also been described.
[18] [19] [6] [2] [3] Enzyme inducing agents may decrease and enzyme inhibitor drugs may increase nandrolone levels. Therefore, an adjustment of the dose of Deca-Durabolin may be necessary. Pregnancy. Lactation. Prostate cancer or breast cancer known or suspected in men. Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, nandrolone decanoate or any of the excipients, including aragillis oil. Deca-Durabolin is therefore contraindicated in patients allergic to peanuts and soy (see Precautions). Nephrosis or nephrotic phase of nephritis. Liver disease with impaired bilirubin excretion. Heart failure.
