First tram in Ukraine, equipped with a smart sound beacon, have been dispatched on the route. The tram uses Mobilis SB system!

Vinnytsia city public transportation company started installation of smart external voice guidance for blind and visually impaired people on city urban transport. First first tram in Ukraine, equipped with a smart sound beacon, have been dispatched on the route. This tram is equipped with a transport version of the Mobilis SB sound beacon system. The Mobilis SB system is the only intelligent sound navigation system that can be used both on transport and on city infrastructure objects.

Mobilis sound beacons do not create any unnecessary noise and produces sound notification only if the blind person is at a transport stop. The sound beacon announces outside the route number, and issues an additional beep indicating the location of the cabin door. The system is designed for urban transport and fully integrated with on-board control systems. For vehicles equipped with external door opening buttons, the system automatically opens the first door for an blind passenger.

Mobilis Laboratory presented next generation of sound beacons for blind people [media]

Mobilis Laboratory presented next generation of sound beacons on briefing at the Department of Social and Youth Policy of Vinnytsia Region State Administration.

The fundamental difference of next generation of sound beacons is: the sound signal is provided only when the blind person is approaching. For actiovation, the user can use several methods: the first option is software application on mobile phone. This methods works for about of 50% of blind people, who use smartphones (with the VoiceOver function). And for the other 50% who do not use gadgets, we have developed an alternative – pocket activator device. The user puts it in his pocket and the device will activate beacons. Sound beacons will be activated automatically, as the user just approaches.
